Why does my clean linen smell musty?

Usually drying rather than detergent. Textiles that never dry fully, or are stored slightly damp or sealed in plastic, go musty in humid air even though they were washed properly.

How often should towels be washed?

After three or four uses, and hung to dry fully in between. Sheets weekly, pillows two or three times a year, comforters two or three times a year.

Can you fix a fitted sheet that no longer grips?

No. Once the elastic has degraded with heat and time, cleaning cannot restore it. That is a replacement rather than a cleaning job and we will tell you so.

Household linen is easy to under clean because it rarely looks dirty. In a humid climate that is the wrong instinct.

A workable schedule

Nobody follows a perfect laundry calendar, but having a rough one stops things drifting for years:

Sheets and pillowcases: weekly, or fortnightly at the outside
Towels: after three or four uses, and hung to dry fully in between
Pillow protectors: every couple of months
Pillows themselves: two or three times a year
Comforters and duvets: two or three times a year
Mattress pads: a few times a year
Table linen: after use, and promptly if anything was spilled

Why humidity changes the maths

Textiles here hold moisture. A towel that never dries fully between uses is damp fabric sitting in warm air, which is exactly the condition that produces that sour smell people blame on detergent. It is not the detergent. It is the drying.

The same applies to stored linen. Putting clean sheets away slightly damp, or storing them in a sealed plastic box, gives you musty linen months later even though it went in clean. Store linen fully dry and somewhere air moves.

What goes where

Most household linen belongs in wash and fold, charged by weight. Sheets, towels, pillowcases, kitchen textiles and table linen all go in together.

Comforters, duvets, pillows and anything with delicate embroidery or heirloom table linen are handled separately, because drum size and drying control matter for those in a way they do not for towels. Send them in the same collection and we will route them correctly.

The fitted sheet problem

Worth saying plainly: if a fitted sheet has lost its elastic, no amount of cleaning brings it back. Elastic degrades with heat and time, and in this climate it goes faster. That one is a replacement rather than a cleaning job, and we would rather tell you than take it in.
